Our CEO, Kamalle Dabboussy, and Policy and Funding Officer, Meredith Stuebe, were invited to attend a Hearing as part of the Federal Inquiry in Settlement Outcomes run by the Joint Standing Committee on Migration following our submission to the Committee in January 2017.
The Hearing was held at NSW Parliament, with the Committee focusing on youth engagement strategies and the role of schools and families in supporting youth throughout their settlement journey.
Kamalle provided a brief introduction to the Liverpool MRC and its services, followed by Meredith outlining key arguments from our submission, including recommendations to extend settlement service availability beyond five years on a needs basis, maintaining current service flexibility and embedding youth activities within a broader framework for community development and empowerment. The Committee requested further information on the Liverpool MRC’s outreach to local high schools, recommendations on increased support/programs for youth from humanitarian backgrounds throughout settlement and other trends and issues the Liverpool MRC has identified.
