The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) addresses issues of social isolation within aged care.
Volunteers make regular visits to elderly people who are lonely or at risk of social isolation, and spend time with them.
Recently, we held an end-of-year celebration for our Volunteers who have devoted so much time to this worthy cause. With all volunteers taking home a certificate of appreciation, five volunteers received certificates honouring their service over the last five years. Last year, one of our wonderful volunteers, Rosalia, reached the ten-year mark!
The visits made by our volunteers are primarily for social purposes, allowing many people who are otherwise alone to benefit from having a friend to spend some time with. At Western Sydney MRC we are particularly able to help those from a migrant or refugee background and those who speak languages other than English. It was been wonderful to see many clients who have come to Australia as refugees, want to give back to the community through the CVS.
To all of our incredible volunteers, thank you for your contribution to the Community Visitors Scheme. Your hard work does not go unnoticed.
