Western Sydney MRC had the privilege to be part of The African Culture & Dinner Nite in partnership with the IGBO community and the Moroccan Sydney Association.
The 7th edition of the African Cultural & Dinner Nite was held at the Liverpool catholic club. It’s one of the highlights on the African community’s social calendar.
This initiative from IGBO community Australia in conjunction with Western Sydney MRC and the Moroccan Sydney Association. Was put together to create a platform for the African community to bond and share the rich African heritage with the wider Australian society and to highlight collective challenges and accomplishments to government representatives: His Excellency Mr Karim Medrek, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Morocco, Dr Geoff Lee MP, Member for Parramatta representing NSW Premier Liverpool City Mayor, Wendy Waller, Ms Anne Stanley MP representing Hon Bill Shorten, just to name a few.
The event celebrated African culture, people and their socio-economic contributions to Australia. It also allowed people from different parts of Africa to unite and experience varied African food, cultures, and dance rhythms from the tunes of African DJ 2000, Not to mention the amazing prizes won and the stunning African fashion parade.
Other Highlights of the night included traditional African dance shows by Afrodisiaq Dance Troupe & Uganda Cultural Dancers and a performance by local singer Lara Dabbagh who made her debut for the African community.
Liverpool City Council was generous to sponsor over 100 youth from different backgrounds to share this colourful experience, which allowed them to spend time together and make new friends also they had the opportunity to share this experience with their families.
Western Sydney MRC had the pleasure of taking over 30 young people from refugee backgrounds who would otherwise not having the opportunity to attend and share this great experience. As always, the young people had a wonderful time and insisting on staying till the end of the event.
Most of the guests had a really good time by mentioning that this year’s celebration of the community’s achievements was the best. If you missed out on all the fun this year make sure you attend the 2018 African Cultural & Dinner Nite.
