REFUGEE WEEK 2021
On 13 June 2021, Sumer Association partnered with Western Sydney MRC to hold the ‘Sound of Terra’ festival as an early kick-off to Refugee Week.
The Sound of Terra event was a resounding success, with around 300 people in attendance, including numerous VIPs.
Uncle Russell opened our event with a Welcome to Country, an introduction to the meaning of the sounds of musical spirituality that dove deeper into understanding the deep connection to the land.
REFUGEE WEEK 2020
Refugee Week 2020 theme is Welcome. To honour this theme, we want to highlight the work undertaken by many of the volunteer communities across Australia. Whether you are an individual volunteer or are connected to community groups, we want to recognise the amazing welcome that you offer and your contribution to those that come here as refugees. Stand together as one, as we Welcome from the Heart.
We called out to individuals and organisations to share their messages of welcome, via video and attend out launch event.
We were extremely blessed to have our welcome to country delivered by Jazz Money, who also write a beautiful opened the online zoom launch with a beautiful poem.
REFUGEE WEEK 2017
Refugee Week Activities were a plenty this year with the MRC both organising and attending 4 seperate events. In recognition of Refugee Week and United Nations International Yoga Day, our staff and clients joined YogaHive in a lunchtime yoga practice, held at KGV Recreation Centre.
Along with presentations and there was delicious Addison Road Street Food Markets, with refugee and asylum seeker market holders showcasing food from their part of the world. We accompanied 24 Syrian and Iraqi refugees to the YogaHive ‘Belong’ event. Everyone participated in an aboriginal smoking ceremony, yoga class and delicious lunch. The yoga was thoroughly enjoyed and the participants have asked for more classes to help them relax and feel health. #liverpoolmrc #refugeeweek2017#yoga #getinvolved
Community HeART and Arts on prescription bring you – Art on Moore. This was another chance to see our Community HeART Mural alongside another recently completed aged care arts program “Arts on Prescription” by Hammondcare. In an open gallery style the Liverpool MRC will be transformed into an art gallery with art from our program participants. Messages of welcome from our staff and Seniors group to newly arrived refugees were left as well as a review of the mural.
