The Path to Freedom program helps young people from CALD backgrounds with psychosocial disabilities: join workshops, build skills, engage in community activities, and pursue career & financial goals.

The program also support carers and families to connect with others and learn ways to better support their loved ones.

Eligibility Criteria

 Young Person

  • Young Person aged 11-21 years
  • CALD Background
  • Experiencing Mental Health and/or Psychosocial Disability
  • Residing in the Liverpool, Blacktown or Campbelltown LGA

 

Family/ Carer

  • Carer or Family Member of Young Person aged 11-21 years experiencing Mental Health and/or Psychosocial Disability
  • CALD Background
  • Residing in the Liverpool, Blacktown or Campbelltown LGA

How would you be involved in the Path to Freedom Program?

Workshops

Undergo age-appropriate transformative growth workshops for developing mental resilience, emotional intelligence, goal-setting prowess and leadership skills, preparing them for the final 10 weeks of entrepreneurship and community projects.

Fun Activites

Plan and run school holiday activities, participate in sports training, learn to swim program and other wellness based activities.

Share Your Story

Engage in community actions or storytelling through audio and video podcasts for community awareness.

Psychosocial disability refers to challenges arising from mental health conditions that affect a person’s ability to participate fully in life. The Path to Freedom program helps address these barriers by offering tailored support through case management, skill-building, and community engagement opportunities.

The program is open to young people aged 11-21 years of CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) backgrounds who are experiencing mental health challenges or psychosocial disabilities and reside in the Liverpool, Blacktown, or Campbelltown local government areas (LGAs) and their family/carers.

Note: No formal Mental Health diagnosis is required to be a part of this program.

Once you’re registered within the program, our ILC Project Coordinator will contact you for the initial assessment.

Yes, the program provides resources and workshops to help carers and families connect with others, various support services available in the community and learn effective ways to support their loved ones who are living with mental health challenges or psychosocial disabilities.

The program includes skill-building workshops, community engagement activities, and opportunities to pursue career and money management skills. These activities are designed to help participants develop leadership and resilience skills, improve their social interactions, and achieve personal growth.

The young people will be divided into 2 age-appropriate groups; 11-15 years and 16-21 years for these activities.

Workshops will be designed along with the participants during the co-design session, where the participants will work with the facilitators to develop activities that align with their personal interests and goals, whether focused on skill-building, community engagement, or personal development.

 

Yes, the program is fully funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services, making it free for eligible participants and their families.

The program offers person centered case work and referrals for  both young participants and their family/carers to support them with their needs, access to available resources and to achieve their goals.

The path to freedom program doesn’t provide direct financial assistance to the participants. However, participants can be referred to other available support service.
