NSW Settlement Partnership

Western Sydney MRC is a member of the NSW Settlement Partnership (NSP), a consortium of organisations led by Settlement Services International that deliver settlement services in different areas of NSW funded by the Department of Home Affairs.

Settlement Success

About the NSP

The NSW Settlement Partnership (NSP) is a consortium of community organisations, led by Settlement Services International, delivering settlement services in agreed areas of NSW under the Department of Home Affairs’ Settlement Engagement and Transition Support (SETS) program. The NSP represents a unique and innovative settlement services model and provides an opportunity for organisations with a long and proud history in service delivery to migrants, refugees and humanitarian entrants to work collaboratively to address the aim and objectives of SETS. The consortium comprises 21 organisations, including SSI and its 11 member Migrant Resource Centres and multicultural services, as well as nine community organisations located around the state.

SETs

Our Settlement Engagement and Transition Supports (SETs) Caseworkers provide office based support to clients. SETS casework is targeted at newly arrived refugees and migrants who have been living in Australia for less than five years. Our caseworkers are focused on building client capacity to access services and participate fully in Australian life. The casework support we provide is varied, and can range from building ability to complete forms and understanding documents, through to providing referral to key supports like legal advice, and providing advocacy to resolve an issue.

Services and Support

To support and address the variety of issues that have been seen through casework, the Western Sydney MRC has held numerous information and education sessions. In response to a request from a group of women, Western Sydney MRC partnered with Legal Aid and Green Valley Domestic Violence Service to provide information to increase awareness around domestic violence and the support that is available. Western Sydney MRC also partnered with the Australian Electoral commission to deliver information sessions on how to make your vote count in the election
